Beating Time are a very friendly and welcoming group of ladies of all ages who just love to harmonise, socialise and entertain. They sing in the Barbershop style (four-part close harmony) under the direction of our wonderful MD Lucy O’Connell.
Beating Time was set up in 1997 in Bray as a quartet and has grown from strength to strength. They have 23 members at present and are always very glad to welcome new likeminded members. Their repertoire has a mixed bag of up-beat numbers to beautiful ballads, old and current. They have brought home many accolades over the years and get a great buzz from singing for an audience.
Beating Time are members of IABS (Irish Association of Barbershop Singers). They attend an annual Barbershop Convention at the beginning of October at The INEC Arena, Gleneagle, Killarney where they participate in the National Women’s Chorus. A great weekend of International/National competitions and lots of fun meeting up with old and new friends alike. Throughout the year, they partake in a couple of coaching weekends with some of the top coaches from Ireland and the UK where they then come back to County Wicklow with lots of new learning tools/skills.
Fundraising for local charities is always dear to Beating Times hearts and they have, to date, raised much needed funds for many organisations. Christmas time brings lots of fun and sparkle with busking for local charities and entertaining at local Christmas Carol Services like Greystones Ladies shopping Night, Enniskerry Arts School , Avondale Treetop Walk and Cafe and their Annual Christmas Eve Carols at the Glenview Hotel among many others.
If you feel this might be for you, give them a call, they’d love to meet you. Beating Times promise they are extremely friendly and welcoming and there is always a well deserved cuppa and chat.
